Hey, curl friends, Fadeke here. Firstly, if this your first time visiting this blog, welcome to the family. I hope you enjoy your stay. For my first blog post, I thought I would first start by sharing my natural hair journey through photos. So here is a visual representation of my natural hair journey from 2014-present. I have been embracing my naturally curly/afro-textured hair for 7-8 years now. I have tried different hairstyles with my natural hair over the years, as you can see. I hope this inspires you to know that your natural hair, is beautiful and versatile in all its textures. Check out this photo gallery below:
When I started my natural hair journey in 2014. (Did the big chop!!, cut my relaxed hair off )

First up, is a photo of me when I cut my hair (also known as the famous big chop) and this was the beginning of my natural hair journey in 2014. I was both scared and excited about starting my natural hair journey. Until that point, I had not seen my naturally curly hair, except for some baby and toddler photos. I had to get used to embracing short hair. As many black women and young black girls know, your hair is almost seen as an important part of your identity and sense of worth, I had to get comfortable having short hair after so many years of being used to long hair when my hair was chemically straightened using a relaxer.
Rocking a Two-strand twist updo hairstyle on my mid-length short natural hair in 2016.

Two years later after starting my natural hair journey, here is a photo of my natural hair in a two-strand twist updo hairstyle in 2016. Experimenting with different hairstyles on my natural hair, as my hair started growing.
Rocking some low 'Space buns' and a twisted fringe with my natural hair in 2019.

A photo of my natural hair in 2019, in some space buns and twisted fringe. Sometimes when it comes to certain hairstyles with your natural hair, you may be seen by others as appearing childlike. I definitely went through this a couple of times however I naturally have a babyface, which makes me look younger than my age (I’m currently 21 going to be 22 this year but I look like I’m 12 in this picture lol). One perk of having a babyface is that I can get away with certain hairstyles and I don’t mind if I look a little child-like.
My attempt of creating my own natural hairstyle updo on my natural hair in 2017. (Experimenting with hairstyles on my natural hair)

A photo of my natural hair in an updo in 2017. My hair was finally getting longer that I could do more hairstyles with it. I came up with this updo as I was playing with my hair one day and I love it. Since coming up with this natural hair updo in 2017, I have attempted to recreate it on other occasions.
My Natural hair in a stretched big Afro look in 2020

My natural hair in an Afro style in 2020. My hair was stretched out from a couple of twists I had taken out and I picked out my hair with a wide-tooth comb to achieve this look. I would recommend investing in an Afro- comb to achieve the afro look as it helps bring volume to your Afro style.
