Hey lovely people, Fadeke here, so for today's blog, I will be discussing one of my favourite artists, "Lucky Daye". Lucky Daye is a Grammy award-winning R&B American singer-songwriter from New Orleans. He made his debut with his first E.P in 2018 and has released other E. P’s since then. His first studio album, ' Painted,' was released in 2019 and received a nomination for 'Best R&B Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards. This year, Lucky Daye released a six-track E.P called 'Table for Two'. Lucky has also co-written songs for Keith Sweats, Ne-Yo, Ella Mai, and Mary J. Blige. He has also featured on tracks with artists such as VanJess, Yebba, Earth Wind & Fire, Babyface, Ari Lennox and Tiana Major 9, to name a few.

Now that I have briefly introduced the incredible and soulful artist Lucky Daye, let's get into the meat of this blog post (vegans don't get offended pls).

Lucky recently created & shared with his fans a mini-documentary series called "Some things I don't mention''. This Doc series essentially looks at the man behind the name "Lucky Daye" and his life story. As the name of the documentary series suggests, Lucky also opens to his fans about some personal things he hasn't mentioned before. As the viewers and fans of the R&B artist, we are invited into Lucky's Daye's world and are taking on a journey to get to know the man behind the name "Lucky Daye".

Lucky Daye, who I would firstly like to say I'm such a fan of; I've been a fan of him since last year. My cousin recommended me to listen to him last year, and since then, I have loved not just his music & gift of storytelling but also the warm soul that he is.

Before dropping the documentary series, which is available on his Facebook page, Lucky essentially deleted all his posts & I was like, What's going on? A fan page I follow suspected that perhaps he's in 'album mode'. Which, to be honest, made sense as other artists in the past have done something similar, i.e., J. Cole, at some point, wasn't active on social media. Then boom, he comes back and drops His "The Off-season'' album. This same thought came to mind, but then I did a little digging and checked one of his highlights named "Doc". This highlight had some behind-the-scenes video clips and photos, which I would later find out were from his documentary.

On Friday or Saturday, I believe Lucky uploaded a mini promo for his documentary series & where the series will be available via his Linktree in his bio. The series is exclusively on Facebook. The post read:

' think it’s time you get to know the real me. Here’s Some Things I Don’t Mention… episode one.
Exclusively on @facebook. Link in Bio' - Lucky Daye (@iamluckydaye)

Episode one mainly deals with Lucky's experience in Atlanta and some of the challenges he faced. Such challenges include determining the type of people he should trust and dealing with dishonest music managers and hate that he experienced.

"I kinda ran from Atlanta, because you know, so much of the hate… I didn't know how to handle that… so, you know I ran from the love part." - Lucky Daye.

But during some of the challenges he experienced, Lucky discovered his musical purpose: music was something he wanted to pursue.

Visuals of the first episode:

There are many pan shots from the beginning of the episode and some close-ups and mid shots of the star of the documentary. The visuals are excellent and give off an almost 90's nostalgia feel to it. It feels as if the series was filmed years ago despite being relatively new. I also liked that the episode almost felt like a vlog or a day in life. Moreover, the episode is filmed so that the viewer almost feels like you're behind the camera or sitting in the room with Lucky Daye. It's not your typical interview type documentary series.

Nearly to the end of the first episode, Lucky meets a fan. The fan appears both overwhelmed and happy to meet Lucky and take a photo with him, and Lucky's response is warm and welcoming. I'm not going to lie, but I was low-key jealous of the young lady who got to meet Lucky Daye in the flesh, but it's cool one day I will meet him (a girl can only dream, right?).

The episode ends with Lucky realising that he isn't going to give up, and just like Aaliyah famously said, "if at first, you don't succeed, pick yourself up and try again".

This episode taught me a couple of things:

Firstly, it gave me a glimpse of Lucky Daye's life before he was known as Lucky Daye and the ups and downs he faced in pursuing his dreams.

The 2nd thing this episode taught me was not everyone you can bring along on your journey when living out your purpose. Some people will take advantage of you; others will help pave the way to achieve your purpose.

The 3rd thing this episode taught me was that sometimes, being in a new environment can be a blessing in disguise in helping you fulfil your purpose. For Lucky Daye, it was him deciding to leave Atlanta.

Lastly, the journey to pursuing your purpose may be the most challenging thing you do in your life. Still, it's your purpose & faith in it that becomes the heartbeat or motivation for you to keep ongoing. Lucky Daye mentioned at some point in the episode that he kept on singing & that he knew music was what he wanted to do (I'm paraphrasing here)

Overall, I enjoyed watching this episode as part of Lucky Daye's mini-documentary series "Some Things I Don't Mention''. I also ended up binge-watching episodes 2-4. Still, I didn't want to talk about all the episodes in this blog post. Each episode essentially covers different stages & experiences in Lucky Daye's life. Hence, I hope to write future blog posts on the rest of the episodes in the series. (Alternatively, I might start to make video reviews on the series, talk about multi-media).

Whether you're an OG fan of Lucky Daye or a newbie fan like me, I am sure you will enjoy watching the His Doc series. The documentary series is exclusively on Facebook, on Lucky Daye's official Facebook page : @IAMluckyDaye1 so login to your Facebook account and make sure to follow His page so you don't miss out on any of the episodes.
